EN Standards and Markings Description
EN 420:2003 General requirements for gloves

Mark Identifying the manufacturer. Product identifying mark.

  • Size Designation (normally in range from 6 to 11)
  • Date of obsolescence
  • Dexterity performance in range 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest) if required

Pictograms Figs 1 to 15 will be displayed where appropriate.

EN455-1:200 - Medical gloves for single use - part 1 Requirements and testing for freedom from holes.

EN455-2:2009 - Medical gloves for single use - part 2 Requirements and testing for physical properties.

EN455-3:2006 - Medical gloves for single use - Part 3 Requirements and testing for biological evaluation. If glove contains Latex Figure 13 plus warning wording will be displayed(may be on packaging only).

EN455-4:2009 - Medical gloves for single use - Part 4 Requirements and testing for service life determination.

Specification as fo EN420, plus the below:

Pictogram - The following will be displayed for mechanical risk Fig 1, with four digits in a horizontal line in order:

  • Abrasion resistance (0 - 4)
  • Blade cut resistance (0 - 4)
  • Tear resistance (0 - 4)
  • Puncture resistance (0 - 4)
  • (Highest number = Greatest resistance)

Plus if appropriate Impact cut resistance and Anti static.

Plus if Appropriate the following will also be displayed: Fig 2 for impact cut resistance. Fig 3 for antistatic properties.

  • Abrasion resistance (0-4):

Specification as for EN420 and EN388, plus:

  • started number EN374
  • gloves resisting penetration and permeation: pictogram fig 4 with a minimum of 3 letter A to L denoting which chemicals have been tested will be displayed
  • gloves resisting micro-organisms - must achieve performance level 2 in penetration - note does not infer protection against virus
  • gloves resisting penetration - pictogram Fig 12 will be displayed

Please note: Unless otherwise marked only the left glove will incorporate chainsaw protection and the following markings. As for EN420, plus:

  • Pictogram for chainsaw use (Fig 10) will be displayed
  • A - 5 finger glove without protection in the fingers, or
  • B - glove or mitt also having protection on the back of the fingers, but not the thumb
  • Chainsaw speed class 0 - 4 (16 to 28 m/s in 4 m/s increments

Specification as for EN420, plus:

  • pictogram - for thermal resistance (Fig 4) will be displayed with six digits in a horizontal line in order:
  • burning resistance
  • contact heat resistance
  • convective heat resistance
  • radiant heat resistance
  • resistance to small splashes of molten metal
  • resistance to large splashes of molten metal
  • each graded X, or 1 to 4. X denotes that this property has not been tested. Higher number indicate higher resistance

Number and date of standard, plus as for EN420, plus:

  • pictogram for Ionizing radiation risk (Fig 15) will be displayed
  • gloves against ionizing radiation -pictogram for ionizing radiation risk- lead equivalence in mm plus test conditions (kV and filtration) gloves
  • with different levels of protection in different parts, each part labelled accordingly
  • gloves against radioactive contamination - pictogram for radioactive contamination risk (Fig 14) will be displayed
  • if applicable - any mechanical resistance as for EN388, pictogram (Fig 1) and performance levels will be displayed
  • any chemical resistance tested by EN374-3, pictogram (Fig 4) and chemical codes will be displayed

Specification as for EN420, plus:

  • pictogram - for cold risk (Fig 6)will be displayed with two digits in a horizontal line in order:
  • convective cold resistance (1[least] to 4[most])
  • contact cold resistance (1[least] to 4[most])
  • 1 - water impermeability if required

  • radiant heat resistance (RHTI24 time of >18 s when tested according to EN ISO 6942)
  • contact heat resistance (tt time of >10 s when tested according to EN 702, wet and dry)
  • heat shrinkage <5%
  • heat resistant lining
  • dexterity >1
  • defined water permeability for waterproof layer
  • water penetration resistance 1 - 4 optional
  • integrity to water immersion optional
