Coronavirus FAQs

As the Coronavirus pandemic continues to compound businesses globally, we would like to thank our customers for their understanding and patience in these times. As you can imagine, and have witnessed, the business world is operating very differently to the way it used to. Therefore, we have compiled some CORONAVIRUS update information with FAQs that will hopefully answer any questions you may have.

Due to demand caused by Coronavirus, Gloveman Supplies Ltd (incorporating Nicholsons SW) are currently unable to take on new customers for certain glove lines at this time. This is so we can protect our stock levels for our existing customers and making them our priority. However, please feel free to contact us as some of our stock lines are being updated weekly and if you are interested in our range of products and want to discuss becoming a customer in the future please telephone 01209 314759 and we'll take your details so we can contact you when circumstances change.

The simple answer to this is that despite us obtaining more stock over the past weeks and months, the demand has more than quadrupled from our existing customers. So to offer a level playing field and to make sure we are fair to all our customers, some product lines have been limited and this enables us to act responsibly as your supplier.

Due to a massive increase in demand for our products, we have had to operate under safety measures while trying to fulfil larger numbers of orders than we are used to. This in turn has also had an affect on our courier network and they also now have to follow certain procedures to ensure staff safety. Again, demand on the courier network in this country has been extraordinary and we have to take into account the fact that they are also under extreme pressure to deliver goods. Delivery might take a few more days than usual but you can rest assured we are doing all we can under the circumstances.

Again, due to unprecedented demand on PPE products like disposable medical gloves, where there is currently an estimated 215 billion shortfall in single use gloves globally, manufacturers around the world are having to increase production to supply demand, which in turn increase prices. Also, glove factories in the far east have limited production capacity, unlike factories that can quickly change production lines to cope with increased demand, which was seen in the increased supply of disposable medical masks. Prices also have to include additional costs in the supply chain where extra staff are employed, increased sanitation is implemented alongside higher Health and Safety measures. These are all added factors that have a knock on effect.

Distribution costs have also increased as couriers and transportation companies change their working practices to cope with the increase in sales. Add to this the increase in stockpiling for a potential second wave by healthcare organisations and governments and it becomes clear that prices will have to continue to rise to cope with such increased demand.

Additionally there is massive pressure on raw materials used in manufacture and supply because of increased demand. We have over the past few months managed to secure more stock to help continue to supply our customers at the fairest prices possible, which enables us to continue to operate and supply essential PPE that's required.

On the 30th April 2020 the Government announced that a new temporary zero VAT rate will apply to supplies of PPE as defined by Public Health England’s Coronavirus (COVID-19) PPE guidance which was issued on the 24th April 2020. On Friday 3rd July 2020 the Government announced that this would be extended until the 31st October 2020. This measure took effect on the 1st May 2020 and is set to continue until at least the 31st October 2020.
